About Us
Somali Hope Academy Foundation is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing access to education to underprivileged children in Somalia.
Somali Hope Academy was the brain child of Somali native Ottawa Police Officer CST. Mahamoud Elmi. The project came to exist on the basis of the beliefs and assumptions that it was time to give some hope to those children of poor parents, orphans as well as displaced kids in Somalia. It is voluntary based service that is commited in making a difference in the lives of these children.
We chose to target education because we believe that education is fundamental for the progress of all humanity in general and war weary Somalia in particular. The conflict in Somali has been on going for almost two decades and there were no public education system. Only those who could afford schooling for their kids had the option for private, thus affectively isolating large number of children with a pool of potential and talents. We realized that this is about time to reach out for the marginalized and the poor so that they too will have a chance to overcome poverty and neglect.
The Academy's goal is to counter anarchy and despair by introducing free education that is run by volunteer Somali Canadians so that those who cannot afford education will be given the chance to enroll tuition free elementary school. The overall objective is also to address fairness among Somali society that have consumed violence and anarchy. We also want the academy to raise awareness among the Somali Diaspora from around the world to join the actions of hope in the social, economic and health sectors that were abandoned during the collapse of Somali state.
